– Dr. med. habil. Michael Imhof
Dr. Michael Imhof is a German surgeon with more than 100 scientific publications, a painter and thinker who explores the intersections of science and philosophy. On his website “Transhuman Art,” he presents a variety of creative projects that merge art, scientific inquiry, and transcendent themes. Imhof is particularly recognized for his books Nachtwanderungen – Pilgerreise zwischen Wissenschaft und Gott (Night Walks – A Pilgrimage Between Science and God) and „Wer schrieb den Kosmischen Code?“ („Who wrote the cosmic code?“), which takes readers on a metaphorical journey in search of life’s deeper meaning. The narrative follows a nameless monk who encounters various archetypes representing contemporary challenges and perspectives, including scientists who equate themselves with deities, individuals lost in addiction, and those grappling with existential despair. Through these encounters, Imhof illuminates timeless philosophical and spiritual dilemmas.
Imhof’s work is distinguished by its effort to bridge traditional spiritual insights with modern existential questions. His writings and projects aim to inspire reflection on the human condition, offering new ways of contemplating life’s ultimate purpose and meaning. Alongside his literary endeavors, his artistic contributions explore themes of transhumanism and humanity’s evolving relationship with technology and transcendence, creating a platform for dialogue at the intersection of culture and innovation.

Artistic Focus
We are living in an Axial Age (K. Jaspers), a time of global crises and chaotic upheavals. Yet a threat with consequences still entirely unforeseeable has not yet fully entered public awareness: the threat to the human species as we have known it, posed by biotechnological interventions and attempts at human enhancement.
Our traditional Western humanist understanding of humanity is now, and will increasingly be, up for debate.
The question of what defines the essence of humanity is becoming ever more pressing in current debates surrounding stem cell research, genetic engineering, and euthanasia. This is about what remains unchangeable beyond the temporality of human existence, what cannot be measured in terms of time and numbers: the uniqueness of the human being and their dignity.
All life is language, symbol, meaning, and a reference to a universal creative spiritual foundation from which objects arise. At the fundamental levels of reality, the distinctions between the material and the spiritual, between physics and metaphysics, are dissolved. Everything that exists is spirit, is language, is symbol, is a reference to a creative whole. In every human life, this language finds tone and color. Even and especially in illness, life speaks to us in a striking way.
